Transport Scheduling Simulation and Optimization 1995

Objective: Develop transportation system model and implement transport scheduling optimization techniques as a final MSc project.

Requirements: Use of Motorola 68HC11 microcontroller, development of transport scheduling model, implement selected scheduling optimization techniques and simulate using built model.

Results: I have developed transportation system model using model train tracks and locomotive. Motorola microcontroller was used to control power in track sections, select direction on switches and detect train arrival to stations. Microcontroller also solved low level routing algorithm which was automatically moving train between two assigned stations. Application solving scheduling problem was developed on PC. As an input to program user was supplying list of packages source and destination stations and initial position of locomotive. Scheduling algorithm was solving problem for shortest route and sending commands to simulation model. As an outcome of research novel scheduling approach was developed and presented on ISA-ICS'95 conference.
